Just What NZ Didn't Need

...Yet another Christian/family values party. In February 2007, Taito Phillip Fields was expelled from the Labour Party after allegations of fraud. He re-entered Parliament as an independent MP. And now, tonight, in Auckland and with 37 criminal charges to his name, he has launched his long-promised party "The Pacific Party".

I'm sorry, but Taito is a fool. I have heard from a friend of Tatio's that he is squeeky clean, and that the charges are groundless. I'm not so sure. Leaving aside the possibility that Mr. Phillip Field is a criminal, he is acting in a way which many would view as immature. Another Christian/Family values party, The Family Party, has been campaigning very hard in the Mangare electorate. It is one thing for two Christian/Family values parties to essentially compete against each other in a general election. However, it is another thing entirely for them to compete for the same electorate!

We already have The Kiwi Party, formed seemingly on the spur of the moment, on the back of the Anti-Smacking bill, and with an MP leaving another political party, turning independent, and then being declared co-leader of this new party. This party claims to hold to Judeo/Christian values, however one of it's core policies is raising the minimum wage to $15. They reckon that they can take Tauranga, but this is highly unlikely, and I will write about this soon. Three Christian/Family values parties, all campaigning for what is essentially the same vote. Tragic.

Taito, we don't want your party. Get on a boat and go back to Samoa.

  1. Maybe the Family Party should have thought about it first. They knew he was going to fight for Mangare. He has huge support in mangare. The family party should have not stood a candidate in mangare and fought for the other two electorates around it.

Just remember that Taito came before the Family party. In the end, Mangare is his ground.

  2. He is a fool to further split the Christian/Family values vote.

  3. Word on the street is that Labour gets rid of anybody who doesn't comply - Taito kicked up a stink and they tried to stick a case to him. I went to his party's dedication service in south auckland and it was powerful and genuine. The people who know him say he is clean - how would you or I know any better I say.. guess we'll see.
Taito isn't splitting a vote - he is standing for the Pacific people and what they believe in - good on him. The Kiwi Party guys worked with him in Parliament and he proved a good man thats why they aren't standing against him in Mangere. The family party are the last ones on the board - if anything they are the only church trying to get power over a state - you can't legislate faith. Friends of mine in south auckland have had the family party knock on their door in mangere saying he's guilty and going to prison... doesn't sound like Christian ethics to me, maybe they are liberal anglican...oh wait..

  5. Well, planning for the Family Party was well under way long before discussion began on starting up the Future NZ Party.

The Family Party is commonly associated with Destiny Church, but the only connection now is that members of the church are involved in the party. Brian Tamaki is no longer the leader of the party, in fact, he has no role whatsoever in the party. He does mentor Richard Lewis.

I think a lot of people are convinced that the evidence is there, and that Taito is indeed guilty. I'm not sure either way, but I am sure that he is being most unhelpful by introducing another Christian/family values party.

Well this guy has been MP for Mangare since 1996, He was kicked out the beggining of last year. So the Family Party people should have come to him and seen how they could work together rather than spliting the family vote by campaigning by themselves and for his electorate.

  7. Hahah, really? The Family Party should have asked an ex-Labour MP with 37 criminal charges - including corruption - stacked up against his name - to help them get a Christian/family values party under way?

    I don't think so.

  8. Innocent before proven guilty? You seem to have written him off already.

If we follow on from what you are saying then the family party should have used there brain and left him to take Mangare and they could focus on something else (manukau east for example). Next year IF he is found guilty and sentenced for over 2 years then there would be a by-election and they could have a crack at it.

It is the family party which is trying to split the family vote.

  9. I haven't written him off. We just don't know. But it would be political suicide to get involved with someone like Taito at this stage.

  10. I'm sorry Andy but what you have argued here doesn't stack up.

I really don't care what different parties do, but it just seems like you are jealous that he's got a good chance of winning the seat.

And be careful what you say, "Get on a boat and go back to Samoa."

And get your facts right, "Brian Tamaki is no longer the leader of the party"

    He never did lead it.

    explain?

I really don't care what different parties do, but it just seems like you are jealous that he's got a good chance of winning the seat.
I confess, I am horribly jealous because I know Taito has a wonderful chance of winning Mangare. Chuckle.

And be careful what you say, "Get on a boat and go back to Samoa."
    Why?

And get your facts right, "Brian Tamaki is no longer the leader of the party"
I was refering to the Destiny Party...

    He never did lead it.

Come on Simeon, you haven't got anything on me. You'll have to try a bit harder I think ;)

  12. Your argument doesn't stack up because you are speaking from a biased point of view.

It is racist to say "Get on a boat and go back to Samoa."

I know you were referring to the destiny party. Again, get your facts right. Brian never led the destiny party. Ask your mate Richard.

  13. We're all biased Simeon. Being biased doesn't mean that your argument doesn't stack up. Oh, and I'm a racist now as well am I?

Ok, fair enough, Brian was not the leader of the Destiny Party, however he did have a very significant role in the party at that time.
