</Blogger>

I'm going to take a break from blogging.  Hopefully I'll start up again after exams are over - some time around the end of October, beginning of November.

Between now and then I've got quite a bit on.  Helping out with FAB Club in the school holidays.  Helping organising a couple of stalls (pro-life and Christian) at the A&P Show (early November).

Possibly got a bit of a campaign against one of the political parties brewing, we'll see what happens there.  Got to help out my two fave political parties, The Family Party and ACT "the guts to do what's right".  I'm hoping for a good strong National/ACT/Family party coalition.

I'll just leave you with this devestatingly poignant quote from Albert Einstein...

"The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it."

  1. Andy, do you think you could cobble together $100? Good, then let's have a little wager! My 100 says The Family Party will fail to get 0.5% of the Party Vote, well short of the threshold. That's just one in 200 voters, you need to win and it's not as if the Election is on a Sunday. By the way ACT are hardly the most pro-life party buddy. ACT support abortion on demand - so I guess I've made you're mind-up on November 8th(?)Cheers.Paul.

  2. Hey mate, a good move to take a break from blogging.

Don't get distracted from your studies by Winston Peters or Rodney Hide. (or attracted to them) ;)

Work hard man and all the best with your exams.

  3. Good on ya Paul... but I'm not into betting. Anyway, even if I was, can't afford it at the moment - though I'm confident they'll get over 0.5%.

Yep, ACT are not pro-life. Their redeeming factor in that respect is that they want to minimise government... This would result in less of what we're seeing in terms of government programs to "educate" young people on sexual issues, etc, or of government funding of abortions. ACT's stance on abortion is that it should be "legal but rare", and as such, I think that if they got the opportunity, they would work to ensure that the Abortion Supervisory Committee was doing it's job. The ASC has been letting a large number of illegal abortions take place (according to the ruling from the high court recently).

It's the philosophy that's good - but of course there are policies that I disagree with.

  7. Actually. I have just tried it on Wordpress. You can get it working. You need to go into your admin panel and then follow these instructions:

    1. Click on "Presentation" in the top menu.
    2. Click on "Theme Editor" in the menu below that.
    3. Choose the "Sidebar" option from the right hand column.
    4. Copy and paste the code (150px wide may be best for Wordpress) and put it after your "Author Information".
    5. Click "Update File".

Let me know how this works out for you.

    Regards

  9. Hi anonymous. I'm sorry, I don't know what to do. I think your version of Wordpress must be different from mine. Keep an eye on www.prolife.org.nz as I hope to eventually create new versions of the counter, so that they will work on Myspace, Facebook and Wordpress.

Sorry I can't help you right now, but I'm really encouraged that you are wanting to spread the pro-life message! Thankyou!

    Regards

  10. I would appreciate your comments on the redeeming features of the Family Party. In my latest blog entry I dump it in the same camp suffering the same disease as the other Christian parties with the caveat that I intend to look into it further.

  11. Hi Madeline,

I'm supposed to be studying ;) but here's a couple of links: Kiwi Party Law and Order Policy with my comments and a quick summary of the 3 "Christian" parties

There is so much wrong with the Kiwi Party it isn't funny. Family Party makes the cut because their economic policy is good, and they are not as sold out to the state as such (alternatives?) as National, The Kiwi Party, or dare I say it (but some Christians will vote for them) United Future.

Also, here's my reaction to one of the Kiwi Party's key running policies (as Larry told me himself), The $15 minimum wage.

Hopefully I'll write something a bit more comprehensive, particularly dealing with these "options" for Christians, Family Party, Kiwi Party, ACT and National.

Ok, I haven't said much about the Family Party's redeeming factors yet. For one thing, they put the headship of Christ first - for their party, and that's a good move, because without an absolute reference point, you're stuffed. Hahah, just look at UF for an example of a party with no principles, but mere "commonsense".

Oh, I disagree with your comment "so what if there are three of them?", because I think in this situation, all Christians should be able to work together. There will be compromise and sacrifices, and some would call it pragmatism... but there is no point chucking many thousands of dollars, and hundreds of thousands of man-hours at a Christian vote which is split three ways... (technically 3, but really only 2 ways, as Taito's fledgling little party is hardly likely to do any better than Alliance ;)

I'd better get back to the books. Ciao.

  13. Hi mlgy.

sorry, I haven't been able to get onto this yet. I am run off my feet with a number of other fairly major pro-life projects at the moment. Will get back onto developing the counter soon. Hopefully before the end of November we'll have something sorted for Facebook, Wordpress, everything.

    Regards
