Weekly Joke

It was 1945, and Kurt was sitting outside the school-room on a bench with the other lads at lunch-time. It had been a hard winter, and the post-war depression meant that times were hard for the majority of Swiss families. However, one of the teachers was surprised to see that Kurt was just eating slices of bread with nothing on them. The teacher came over and in a concerned voice asked Kurt why he was just eating bread - with nothing on it. Kurt looked up, "Oh no Miss, they're cheese sandwiches". The teacher took a good hard look at the boy's lunch - there was nothing on the bread. Kurt saw the puzzled look on his teacher's face, and so explained, "My father cuts up the cheese and he gives me the holes to put on my bread. Mother and Father have the other pieces".
