Abortion: No Parental Consent Required

Sit down before you read this.

"A spokesman for Justice Minister Annette King confirmed that a child of any age could get an abortion without parental consent, and that legislation had not changed since 1978." - Stuff, 8 September

This is beyond ridiculous. In a country where the Government bans television advertising of high-sugar/fatty foods during periods where high numbers of children are watching TV, those same children are permitted (even encouraged, by the friendly counsellors at your local state school), to have an abortion. Without even the decency to tell the girl's parents.

The article also says,

"The issue was highlighted this week by a Nelson mother who is calling for a review of abortion laws after her 15-year-old daughter was booked in for an abortion without her mother's knowledge.
The student -- whom the Nelson Mail has agreed not to identify -- had the operation on Wednesday but her mother said she only found out about the planned procedure when it came up during an argument on Monday.
But a school counsellor had known about it and, although unable to tell the mother due to privacy concerns, did not do enough to encourage the girl to inform her parents, the mother said.
Her daughter had told her it was common for students to get abortions without their parents' knowledge, and they were often helped by school counsellors." - Stuff, 8 September

Sick. To think that these agents of the state would take advantage of young girls (no matter how young they are), and "counsel" them in favour of having abortion. Almost worse, is that New Zealand's law apparently permits them to do this behind the back of mum and dad, blissfully unaware of the state-interference in their daughter's body. Dad mowing the lawn and mum hanging out the washing while their thirteen-year-old daughter is down at the local abortion-mill having a living baby killed inside her.

If you were still looking for a good reason not to send your children to a state school, stop looking. This is happening down the road, behind the fences of your local state institution.

Homosexual Brainwashing of Public School Children

Here is a podcast from the Chalcedon Foundation, entitled "Interview with Investigative Journalist Lee Duigon on the Homosexual Brainwashing of Public School Children". It is well worth a listen. One really good point that was raised was that people have the right to be homosexuals, but they do not have the right to force their homosexual agenda on others.

Why are traditional relationships and families coming under increasing attack from Western governments, while at the same time, countless millions of tax-payers dollars are being poured into programs designed to normalise homosexuality and so-called "families" with same-sex "parents". Sex-education has as much a right to be a part of state school curriculum as does creationism for instance (that is, none).

This issue of public schools teaching children to embrace and experiment with homosexuality is yet another example of how the US Government and our own government are using state-schools as their chief means of social engineering. (And that's why they hate home-education)

Let me just say as a disclaimer, I do not hate homosexuals.

Black Sticks Defeat Korea

Watched my first game of Hockey tonight, the Kiwi men's team (the Black Sticks) vs. the Korean team. It was nail-biting stuff during the first half of the game, with Korea leading 1-0, courtesy of a penalty corner early in the game. Thankfully a friend told me a few things about the game in general, and some rules, so I wasn't completely ignorant to what was happening.

In the second half, 28 year old Hayden Shaw pulled off a hatrick, leaving the Koreans mourning after a 3-1 defeat dealt to them by the team from down under. As far as I know, this game was heat 4, a qualifying match for the semi-finals. Go the Blacksticks!

Huh, check this out, they were playing a game pretty similar to hockey 4,000 odd years ago in Egypt. Click here for some more ancient pictures of (naked) guys playing versions of games that we still play today.

Canterbury Countryside

The Buckland family has a cool blog which I check out from time to time.  Today when I had a look, I was blown away by some exhilarating photos of the Waikari countryside.  Here's one photo...

All Blacks Dominate Wallabies

On Saturday night at Eden Park, Auckland, the All Blacks made the Wallabies (Australia) pay a huge price for their victory last week.  Demolishing the Australians 39 points to 10, the All Blacks were strengthened having their captain Richie McCaw back from recuperation.

Number 10, Daniel Carter kicks the Aussies into tomorrow.

Went round to a friend's place and watched the replay, projected onto their wall which was cool.  The little picture-frame hook near the top of the picture was of constant interest to me, but from memory, the ball never hit it.  Mmmm, had some good Munchos which went so well with the dry gingerale.  I even got given a little Wallabies cupcake, complete with green icing, two yellow pebbles and a wallabies flag sticking out the top.  That's devotion.  Watching the Wallabies get thrashed with half the room Aussies and half Kiwis, it doesn't get much better than that.

Dominate.

Those Rugby Players are hard men.  My jaw drops as I see them throwing their bodies down onto the ground, or into two oncoming defence players.  Or in the middle of a ruck, getting the cleats in the back, or having a 110kg All Black sitting on your head.  You'd have to be 50% stupid and 50% brave to play a game like that.  Not my cup of tea.

Kneejerk Expected from Double Homicide

Police were called to Harold Holt Ave, Napier at 12.25am after residents reported hearing gunshots. A woman was found dead on the footpath with gunshot wounds. A man was found nearby, still alive, but with similar injuries. The man was rushed to hospital, but died soon after being admitted.  Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Dewhirst said that it was too early  to say if anyone else was involved, and police were not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting.
(Report compiled from Stuff, Newstalk ZB and TVNZ)

This sounds too much like a double homicide.  A man and a women who both died from bullet wounds, and found lying on the sidewalk by Police in the early hours of the morning.  :( It's hard to comprehend, two people coughing out their last breaths, lying on the cold hard tarceal outside their home while, about 700km south, I was blithely going about my life here in Christchurch.

The inevitable knee-jerk reaction will come, a public outcry followed up by proposals of further tightening of our gun-laws.  Instead of focussing on the crime of the murderer, the Government is likely to look into passing some new legislation which will punish everyone else in New Zealand who didn't commit the murder.  It's quite simple, find the low-life who did this, and hang him.

Google News will keep you updated on this tragic case.

Update (3/8/08):
- Case may be homicide/suicide - NZ Herald
- Police have identified the victims as 61 year old Stephen Webby and 39 year old Annette Pollock. - Newstalk ZB

Jimmy Cowan Should be Fired

"...Cowan was arrested outside the One Blue Dog bar in Esk Street in Invercargill about 4am on Sunday and spent several hours in custody." - www.stuff.co.nz

www.stuff.co.nz reports on the verdict of the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU)...

"The New Zealand Rugby Union today demanded halfback Jimmy Cowan stop drinking as a condition of his ongoing employment. The All Black was also fined and ordered to seek alcohol counselling after three charges have been laid for disorderly behaviour in recent weeks."

Halfback Jimmy Cowan, The All Blacks

Family First responds to the situation, asking the question "who should we look to as role models?"...

“Our traditional approach to role models has been based on status, position or job – a sporting star, being on television, on radio, an actor/actress, a high public profile etc, but we should be defining role models to our young people based on the strength of character.”

The general consensus of those calling for Jimmy Cowan to be dropped from the All Blacks appears to be that since the halfback is a role model (particularly) for the young boys of New Zealand, we should set an example. Well, I agree; we should set an example. However, it is not Cowan's fault that the next generation of New Zealand's men look to him as one of their role models. He is just a man, and we all slip up now and then - some worse than others.

I remember the outrage when the news came out that Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe would be acting nude in a London stage play entitled Equus, which came out early 2007. Below is a quote from this article...

“The London Daily Mail quoted from letters written to Radcliffe's fan sites. "We as parents feel Daniel should not appear nude. Our nine-year-old son looks up to him as a role model. We are very disappointed and will avoid the future movies he makes," one parent wrote. ”

Parents should not be encouraging/allowing their children to treat these professionals as their role models - whether they be in the sports industry or hollywood. There is the occasional person that shines through the smoke of the often debauched and immoral group of celebrities who have surely evolved into a new Western aristocracy. However, wouldn't it be better if children were encouraged by their parents to look back at their family tree, and to read of the heroism for instance, of their great grandfather in World War Two.

Sadly, today there are too few heroes.

Back to Jimmy Cowan. The reason he should be fired is not that he happens to be looked upon as a role-model by some. It is because he is representing his country, New Zealand in a series of international rugby games. By letting him continue on with the All Blacks as they have, the NZRU is saying loud and clear...

"Yeah, this is New Zealand, we don't really care who we let represent us in international sport".
